We here at Townie believe there are 3 corners that are the foundation of good local marketing. None of them are independent, but rather inter-dependent. And many subcategories exist within this local marketing gamut.

It sounds complicated and it can be at times – but like any tripod, when you have these three things properly considered you are sure to find solid footing on any local marketing terrain.

BRAND

Your branding is obviously critical. Logo, graphics, slogan, attitude - these all need to reflect you and your type of business, and be consistent but tailored for the recipient within each marketing channel you use.

ADS

What you advertise, how you advertise it, where you advertise, and to whom, when. Whether you're using online ad efforts or more traditional media, is your advertising working for you?

SITE

Let's face it, your business isn't getting anywhere without a good website these days. (You have a site, don't you?) Easily a cornerstone of modern local marketing - how does your current site stack up?

Clearly the three-pronged argument is simplistic. What about social media? Is it website or advertising? [hint: it’s all 3] And SEO – it’s a website consideration, but does it count as advertising? [also all 3] And if I have t-shirts printed, that’s gotta be a form of advertising – or wait, is that branding? Direct mail – clearly that’s just advertising? [seriously? direct mail?]

In fact, most things that you could do as ‘local marketing’ fit somewhere in our triangular spectrum.
